The USS Oriskany “Mighty O” was purposely sunk in 2006 as an artificial reef. At 911ft, it is the largest artificial reef in the world. With the top of the ship at 80ft and the flight deck around 145ft, there is plenty of ship to explore for all skill levels.

There are hundreds of scuba diving sites in Pensacola: wrecks, natural reefs, artificial reefs, even the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany, all within a short boat ride of Pensacola Pass. The USS Oriskany is the pride of Pensacola and the crown jewel of Pensacola wreck diving. Purposely sunk in 2006, It is the largest artificial reef in the world and home to an abundance of wildlife, including fish, turtles and sharks. Truly the dive of a lifetime, the USS Oriskany is an advanced recreational dive in a class by itself. Although the USS Oriskany is the dive of a lifetime, don't be fooled into thinking it is the only thing to see in the area! With more than 50 miles of protected shoreline, clear waters and beautiful sugar- white sand, Pensacola is a where the bay connects to the emerald-green waters of the Gulf of Mexico. There are many purposely sunk airplanes, ships and old bridges in the area that act as artificial reefs. The area’s commitment to artificial reefs is astounding, and each spot offers a different mix of ship exploration and marine life to keep the dive exciting. It’s a great spot for beginner Scuba divers as well as divers with advanced deep-water certification.
